Branko Marjanovic, (FCA – Federation of Canadian Artists, active member). Branko Marjanovic lives and works in Calgary, Alberta. Most of his childhood memories have something to do with art. His artistic ability has been a driving factor in his life. He has been asked to paint for friends and relatives. At the age of 14 Branko received his first award for oil painting. During the early stage of his development he tried oils and pastels. Currently his main love is watercolour. Having an artistic touch has helped him during his career as an engineer (Geologist).

At the age of 30 he fulfilled his childhood dream by immigrating to Canada. In 1999, he moved from Saskatoon to Calgary where he was immediately fascinated by the Canadian Rockies. In 2002 he became an employee of O’Connor Associates Environmental Inc, and his life took a different turn. His ability to see the world through the eyes of an artist was recognised and openly welcomed by O’Connor Associates. With the encouragement of his wife Micana he begins taking classes from Canadian Artist Rich Williams, who introduced him to watercolour. Since then he primarily works in watercolour, capturing Rocky Mountain landscapes in his distinctive painting style. He spends his summer weekends and holidays hiking in the mountains where he photographs, sketches and paints. He feels privileged and honoured to be able to express the Rocky Mountain majestic beauty in his art.

“Painting is not work to me. In fact it is something I become absorbed in. I am fascinated by the effect of light and shade found in nature. I use photographs and sketches when I am painting. However, a good pencil sketch is always better than a photo since it captures basic individual elements and provides the best composition. I do not allow photos to control me. Art is not a copy of the photo image but the mood and impression of the subject”.

Understanding the need for further improvement of his technique, he has taken numerous lessons as well as attended several workshops to improve his style. He now lives his vision of life of which he has dreamed for years.

Thank you for your appreciation of my art work. I am living the dream.
